My WiFi Keeps Disconnecting

WiFi dropping out? Try these simple checks to get your connection stable again.

If your WiFi connection keeps dropping, don't worry. There are a few simple checks you can carry out before contacting our Customer Service Team.

Step 1: Restart Your Router

Restarting your router can often resolve temporary WiFi issues.

  1. Switch your router off.
  2. Wait 30 seconds.
  3. Switch it back on.
  4. Allow up to 5 minutes for it to reconnect.

Once your router has restarted, check whether your WiFi connection remains stable.

Step 2: Check if the Problem Affects All Devices

Try connecting another device to your WiFi.

  • Only one device is disconnecting? The issue is likely to be with that device rather than your broadband connection.
  • Multiple devices are disconnecting? Continue with the steps below.

Step 3: Move Closer to Your Router

WiFi performance can be affected by distance.

If possible, move closer to your router and check whether the connection becomes more stable.

If your WiFi works well near the router but disconnects further away, your signal may not be reaching every part of your property.

Step 4: Check for Interference

Everyday household items can interfere with your WiFi signal.

Your router works best when it is:

  • Positioned in an open area.
  • Raised off the floor.
  • Away from large metal objects.
  • Kept away from electrical appliances such as microwaves, cordless phones and baby monitors.

Step 5: Restart Your Device

Sometimes the issue is with the device rather than the WiFi connection.

Restart your computer, phone or tablet and reconnect to your WiFi network.

Step 6: Check for High Network Usage

If several people are streaming videos, downloading large files or gaming at the same time, your WiFi connection may become less stable.

If possible, pause any large downloads and see whether your connection improves.
